Italy&#8217;s first Olympic Games were held here in 1956, and in 2026 the Queen of the Dolomites will once again host the\u00a0Winter Olympics\u00a0together with Milan.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the\u00a0<strong>Dolomiti Superski\u00a0ski area,<\/strong> Cortina comprises the following ski areas:\u00a0<strong>Faloria-Cristallo,\u00a0Lagazuoi-5 Torri,\u00a0Tofane,\u00a0San Vito di Cadore,\u00a0Auronzo\u00a0and\u00a0Misurina<\/strong>. 36 ski lifts for a total of 120 kilometres of slopes, surrounded by unique panoramas.<\/p>\n<p>During the winter season the\u00a0Ski Area of Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo\u00a0is home to many sporting, cultural, and high fashion events, including: the\u00a0Women&#8217;s Alpine Ski World Cup\u00a0stage (January) on the\u00a0Olimpia delle Tofane\u00a0track, the Snowboard World Cup at night on Faloria (December), the &#8220;A mountain of books&#8221; Expo (from December to April), the Granfondo Dobbiaco-Cortina (February), and dinners in the shelter, snowshoeing at night, and ski mountaineering competitions at night.<\/p>\n<p>By staying at the Hotel Pontechiesa, you can take advantage of the <strong>skibus service<\/strong>, with a stop just 100 meters from our property. It is a particularly child-friendly facility.<br \/>\nThe slope \u201cVitelli\u201d has resting places, where lovers of slow skiing can admire the magnificent panorama.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Themed Ski Tours<\/strong><br \/>\nThe spectacular Olympia ski-tour starts from the Tofane area and follows the Olympic run down to Rumerlo where, during the 1956 Winter Olympics, the Olympic flame burned. Faloria offers the extremely long Vitelli piste which hosted the Olympic giant slalom and is now dedicated to slow skiing. For history buffs there is the Great War Tour: an 80 kilometre itinerary taking in immaculate snow-covered trails.
